Only Lovers Left Alive: A Review (no spoilers)

Tom Hiddleston, what a brilliant brilliant man. Everything he touches turns to gold.

Only Lovers Left Alive was an impulse watch the other night. I've been meaning to see it as soon as it was announced that Hiddles and Tilda were involved, but I wasn't sure if it would be shown in Adelaide. *Random plug about how Palace Nova is amazing for arthouse and film fest films* I was just there to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier with a friend when I realised straight afterwards there would be a screening for OLLA. So I decided to watch it...by myself.

I walked out of watching the film feeling all these emotions that I don't know how to describe, yet also not knowing how to feel...I was just so numb. There was so much raw emotion. And Hiddles doesn't smile at all during the film. AT ALL.

A scene in the film when the lovers are reunited

I remember reading a review saying that the dialogue was slow, and the plot unfolded slowly throughout the film, but I definitely think that was the charm of the film, and fit in with the type of vampires Hiddles and Tilda were playing. They have been living for hundreds and thousands of years, and there is no need to amble through life.

Look at these two perfect specimen! The chemistry between Hiddles and Tilda is undeniable

The rest of the small cast is also brilliant. I think I gave a little squeal when I saw John Hurt! Anton Yelchin and Mia Wasikowska rounded out the cast.

If you get the chance, I would definitely recommend this movie. It's really interesting, and satiate any visual artistry you desire.
