So today was the day I received my beautiful, bespoken leather satchel from the Leather Satchel Co. Yippee! I had a horrible exam today, so it's arrival definitely brightened up my day :)
Look at that body! |
I should start by mentioning how long I've wanted a leather satchel. I remember at the start of 2011, I was looking at bag options for uni, and stumbled across the Cambridge Satchel Company. I instantly fell in love with the look, and could definitely see myself carrying around a vintage looking leather satchel. However, at that stage, I did not have a job, and couldn't possibly have justified saving a few months worth of pocket-money just to spend on a bag. That would have meant no social life, no coffees at uni, no delicious treats, and no new clothes!
Finally, this year, I justified getting one for my 21st birthday. Isn't it like a rite of passage to get something special for yourself on your 21st birthday? Something that marks and celebrates your own recognition of your transition to adulthood? I dunno, I probably just made that up for an excuse. It's not like I don't already just buy what I want whenever I want and not have any savings in the bank. I'm so bad with my money. As soon as I get paid, I spend it. But I have never justified spending more than $300 on a bag. This is what my satchel ended up costing. Or maybe I've slightly overestimated it.
After extensive research, reading reviews of other bloggers' experiences, I decided on the LSC. Why? Because of the customisation options! And also the colour options available, and various sizes to choose from, especially the tallboy. And at CSC, they seemed have very long waits for the delivery of the satchel. I had read somewhere that someone waited 3 months for theirs!! From the time of my order, to the delivery, my LSC satchel arrived in 3 weeks. Very very good for a customised, genuine leather, hand-made satchel. The customer service with LSC was impeccable. Special thanks needs to go to Daniel and Keith at LSC who answered dozens of my menial questions via email, and took time the to put together some design options I had been contemplating.
TIME TO OPEN THE BOX!!!!!
I've read gorgeous descriptions of how people's satchels came in "brown paper packages tied up in string"...unfortunately, no brown paper or twine for me, but I did get the cute little Alice in Wonderland inspired envelope!
First impressions? Gorgeous colour, smells like genuine leather, and it's allllll mine!
I ordered a 15" tallboy in chestnut brown. I asked for deeper gussets, a longer strap, a leather pouch on the back, and gold hardware. And of course, got my initials embossed in gold on the flap. I did order a shoulder pad for the strap, but I think they forgot it :S oh well.
An extra pocket for my metrocard, phone, some tissues... |
It's a lot boxier than I thought it would be, but I did ask for deeper gussets, so that must have changed the look a bit. Hopefully over time with use and wear, the leather will get a little softer. And I so want to use it now. Too bad I've only got two more exams for this year! I'll have to wait two whole months before I can use it for uni! It fits my 13" MacBook Pro, a folder, a book to write in, my pencil case, purse, and even a drink bottle! Yay. I can even get a small snack in there!
I would definitely recommend the LSC for anyone considering purchasing a hand-made genuine leather satchel. Pop over to their website, and check out some examples and funky designs on their facebook page. Now, to save up and design the little 12.5" satchel I want for summer...
